JASPER STRASSENFEST COMMITTEE ANNOUNCES PATRIOTIC HOME DECORATING CONTEST TO KICK-OFF 2026 THEME & AMERICA 250

The Jasper Strassenfest Committee is launching the lead-up to its highly anticipated summer
festivities by inviting Jasper residents to showcase their civic pride and creativity in the upcoming Patriotic
Home Decorating Contest. This year’s contest serves as an early kick-off for the 2026 Strassenfest theme,
“Threads of History, Patterns of Progress,” celebrating the rich heritage and forward-moving spirit of the Jaspercommunity, along with America’s 250th Birthday.

The Committee encourages residents within Jasper city limits to transform their front yards, porches, and home exteriors into vibrant displays of red, white, and blue. To ensure all styles of expression are celebrated, participants can enter their displays into one of two categories: Classic or Whimsy. The Classic category honors traditional, elegant, and timeless patriotic decor, while the Whimsy category opens the door for playful, imaginative, and uniquely creative interpretations of American pride.

Prizes will be awarded to the first and second-place winners in each category. Winners will be announced
during the Patriotic Park Picnic, scheduled for the evening of Thursday, July 2, 2026, at Jaycee Park.
Entering the contest is free and simple – and open to all residents within the Jasper, IN city limits – with multiple convenient methods available to submit information. All entries must be officially received by the deadline on Friday, June 26, 2026. Judging will take place on the evening of June 29, 2026.

How to Enter:
● In-Person: Fill out an official entry form and drop it off at the Jasper Chamber of Commerce.
● By Phone: Call 812-482-6866 to register over the phone.

Jasper Strassenfest Committee Celebrates America’s 250th Birthday with 2026 Theme and Hofmarschall Announcement

The Jasper Strassenfest Committee has announced the theme and Hofmarschall for the 48th Annual Jasper Strassenfest to be held July 30 – August 2, 2026 in downtown Jasper, Indiana.  This year’s theme will be “Threads of History, Patterns of Progress”, celebrating America’s 250th birthday.  The theme will be reflected on the button design for the 48th Annual Strassenfest, and through special events and activities leading up to, and throughout the weekend.  Hofmarschall for this year’s event will be representatives of the Dubois County chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR). Corie Eckerle will serve in her second year as Strassenfest Chairman.

The theme “Threads of History, Patterns of Progress” interweaves the area’s rich German heritage with the momentous occasion of America’s 250th birthday. It serves as a reminder of how our community’s story is woven from the contributions of generations past and present. The German immigrants who settled Dubois County brought with them traditions, work ethic, and values that became integral threads in the fabric of American society. This theme recognizes that our local German traditions and American patriotism are not separate patterns, but complementary in design – strengthening and enriching the other as we move forward into our nation’s next 250 years.

Members of the Dubois County chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR) will serve as the Hofmarshalls at this year’s festival, representing our American patriotism and history.  The DAR was chartered on October 17, 1922, when fourteen founding members came together to perpetuate the memory and spirit of those who achieved American Independence. Over the past century, the local chapter has been instrumental in preserving local history and promoting patriotism throughout the community. Members have worked diligently to locate and mark the graves of seven Revolutionary War soldiers buried in Dubois County, and sponsored a bronze plaque on the east walk of the Dubois County Courthouse honoring these patriots. The chapter has spearheaded significant preservation efforts, including the renovation of the Old Town Hall in Huntingburg, and continues to support local schools, veterans, and active military through various programs. With 32 active members, the chapter hosts annual events including the American History and DAR Good Citizens reception and Constitution Week displays, while participating in wreath-laying ceremonies throughout the area. Their selection as Hofmarschall honors their century-long commitment to preserving the historical threads that connect our community to America’s founding principles.

Past Dubois County not for-profit booths and event contacts have received initial communication.  Non-profit groups interested in participating in this year’s Strassenfest should visit jasperstrassenfest.org for details.

The Jasper Strassenfest committee wants to express their gratitude to all past sponsors for making the Jasper Strassenfest a premier German Festival.  All financial support is used to provide free entertainment, events, activities and infrastructure.  Sponsorship request letters have been mailed to past sponsors. Information about booths and events is also being shared with past participants.  New Dubois County non-profit groups are encouraged to consider the Jasper Strassenfest as a fundraiser.

Anyone wanting to provide financial support to the Jasper Strassenfest as a sponsor, or to participate by running a booth or event can call the Jasper Chamber of Commerce at 812-482-6866.

Jasper Strassenfest Half Pot Winners Have Claimed $77,900 Prize

The Jasper Strassenfest Committee announced that a winner has come forward to claim the 2025 Half Pot Prize.  After confirmation that the ticket was valid, committee members met at the Jasper Chamber of Commerce to present the $77,900 check to the winners, a couple from Jasper who wish to remain anonymous.

In its fifth year, the pot total reached $155,800, the highest total to date.  A large portion of the proceeds will benefit the Vincennes University Jasper Scholastic Excellence Scholarship Fund which provides tuition, a laptop and $500 book stipend for local student recipients.  Proceeds will also be used to support the community and financial stability of the Jasper Strassenfest. The winning ticket draw took place on Friday, August 15th at the Jasper Chamber of Commerce.

Although they wish to remain anonymous, the half pot winners shared they are lifelong residents of Jasper and have bought a ticket every year since the Half Pot event began, appreciating that the proceeds help to benefit local students and their community.  After purchasing the ticket during a Friday visit to the Strassenfest, they tucked it away upon returning home.  They remembered to check their ticket after reading in the Dubois County Free Press evening newsletter that the pot was still unclaimed, 11 days after the drawing took place.  They stated that while they don’t have any definite plans for using their winnings, they want to find a way to give back to the community and treat themselves to something they enjoy with the unexpected funds.

Members of both the Jasper Strassenfest committee and the VUJ Foundation wish to express their continued gratitude to the community and festival goers who support the Half Pot event. They will hold a check presentation to the VUJ Scholastic Excellence Scholarship fund at a later date.
